This charred page reads: Day 13 and Niome is recovering from a nasty ape bite. We are not sure why the apes were so aggressive. This charred page reads: Day 11 - a pleasant day but some rain kept us in out tent for most of the afternoon. The apes seem to be highly intelligent but very shy. Some of the younger males are becoming bolder and <illegible> They act almost like children who have a secret.
